Success Stories - RV Global Solutions

CLOUD SUCCESS STORIES

GEOGRAPHY / CUSTOMER REACH: Global

BUSINESS CHALLENGE(S) FACED BY OUR CLIENT:
Our client was using Dynamodb in a serverless architecture, with several interdependent web service API’s with cross domain data points being consumed by thousands of geographically segregated business users accessing several smaller subsets of data simultaneously.
The challenge was to sync the data points in the write model while accessing the ready to be consumed data from the read model with no down time, with a high degree of accuracy & efficiency as it relates to the response time between requests and responses. All this needs to happen while handling updates to the data lake.

CLOUD PRODUCT USED: AWS Cloud

OUR SOLUTION:
Modernization of applications along with data conversion was achieved by several seamless Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD) application release cycles. These DAD release cycles were complemented by timely critical hardware upgrades and software patching to facilitate migration from standalone legacy mainframe systems to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud hosted & serviced solutions leveraging Distributed Real-Time Architecture as a Service(DRTAaS).

RESULT ACHIEVED:
Leveraging DRTAaS, our client was able to store, scale, manage and catalog the data better in a managed service delivery model thereby aligning with yearly goals. Leveraging AWS CI/CD tools such as Swagger, we ran large workloads ensuring production grade applications reliability and performance. Further, real-time use cases of demos undertaken for Proof of Concept (POC) helped our customer extend common data points across multiple cross-domain workstreams.

GEOGRAPHY / CUSTOMER REACH: USA and Europe

BUSINESS CHALLENGE(S) FACED BY OUR CLIENT:
Our client faced multiple priorities in a broad range of domains in which it operates on a massive scale with its clients. The primary challenge (which became a critical requirement) was the client’s ability to provide a central launchpad/placeholder for all its applications by line of business. Another important piece of the requirement was to choose a viable cost effective cloud solution.

CLOUD PRODUCT USED: Heroku

OUR SOLUTION:
RV Global Solutions Inc. became one of the key early adopters of Heroku cloud solution in the year 2017 by migrating some of its microservices utilizing the cloud stack and integrating the web services with commonly available digital solutions and services – Point of Sale (POS) and payment solutions automation.
A total of four applications were integrated seamlessly into the unified portfolio central hosting platform thereby providing 24×7 access to a large number of users spread across the globe. The entire end-to-solution was developed using a custom configured virtualized instance of a 1-page modal application developed using Heroku’s cloudboost service.

RESULT ACHIEVED:
The developed solution enabled our customer to grow organically and match up with its competitors on several fronts in critical service delivery areas. Our solution seamlessly mapped business requirements to workflows thereby enabling our customer to achieve greater efficiency in process execution cycles and the overall productivity of its entire workforce increased dramatically.
Our customer won many accolades from their clients by way of commitments fulfilled as a result of the centralized single point of application delivery. More specifically, process and workflow delivery efficiency increases were witnessed.
Having tasted the success of the efficiency gains, our customer subsequently on-boarded all of their applications in a similar manner onto the Heroku cloud using the same development approach.

GEOGRAPHY / CUSTOMER REACH: USA

BUSINESS CHALLENGE(S) FACED BY OUR CLIENT:
With several completed and in-flight construction projects in the pipeline, it was getting tougher to keep oversight of progress and timely completion with milestones deliverables management.
There was an increasing and pressing need to align with available priorities to pick the best to-do items that were keeping in view profitability, available resources and budget. The decision making had to be based on previous data points and future projections.
The end-user reports were to be generated and summarized to the management for easy interpretation and accurate tracking by factors and parameters to have data readily accessible via custom functions.

CLOUD PRODUCT USED: AWS Cloud

OUR SOLUTION:
All internal employees who work on the project tasks across all clients were provisioned through an IAM policy and provided a portal to create a breakdown of sub-tasks and record additional information in a solution based on Amazon AWS Appstream.
The CRMS system was first introduced to volunteer leads who learnt all about the modules and they in-turn trained remaining employees on how to use CRMS, how to run daily reports and send summarized status as needed.
Management was now able to see sophisticated work completion analytics by employees and other time series driven projections for financial audit and regulatory reporting for external auditors.

RESULT ACHIEVED:
Adoption of CRMS increased construction employee engagement and made the allotment as well as tracking of construction related tasks more efficient. Our cloud based approach simply made it more manageable, thereby contributing to an overall increase in production output and productivity by 35%.
Further, the cost savings complemented with on-time projects delivery resulted in cost savings realization by 40%.

GEOGRAPHY / CUSTOMER REACH: USA

BUSINESS CHALLENGE(S) FACED BY OUR CLIENT:
Our real estate information client needed to migrate excel uploaded demographic, tax historical data for a plethora of real-estate ranging from county schools to high profile IT company headquarters.
The data conversion challenge involved a two-step process of decoding the format of the data into a large number of fields with varied degrees of positions with unknown data types. Another dimension to the puzzle was to upgrade the SQL Server platform from version-2005 to version-2012, from the initial single source of tables-set getting scaled up in terms of ever growing data into Microsoft Azure.

CLOUD PRODUCT USED: Microsoft Azure

OUR SOLUTION:
We started putting together SQL Server database instance configurations from the ground up followed by one-time migration to Microsoft Azure Cloud databricks environment. Built the source ETL stack leveraging Import/Export iterated ETL->ELT transformations.
The target ETL stack was built by simulating the source ETL pipeline and extending over the processing model for the Azure databricks service by implementing an additional staging data layer using additional batch data processing.
The analytics solution was developed using Azure Synapse Analytics. A strategic operational model was conceptualized and perfected by optimizing the scaled up cloud solution to host data, images and related information rendered into the presentation layer as an analytic recommendation engine. The data was spawned into various other proprietary platforms such as Mongodb for better analysis and Return On Investment (ROI) capabilities.

RESULT ACHIEVED:
The Azure cloud platform solution brought about efficiency in terms of application performance, better insight into data stack and overall appeal to the stakeholders to decide on various data points pertaining to a single data set on a property item. The total cost of data ownership and cloud hosting came down significantly.
Additionally, better data decisions led to increased customer profitability to meet margin sales targets that were achieved in a rapid cycle of time.

GEOGRAPHY / CUSTOMER REACH: Global

BUSINESS CHALLENGE(S) FACED BY OUR CLIENT:
The Struts application being used was monolithic and non-modular:

  • There was tight coupling between components, as everything was within the same application.
  • Reusability options were limited
  • The code base was large:  This made it tough for developers and QA to understand the code and business knowledge.
  • Application was less Scalable

CLOUD PRODUCT USED: Microsoft Azure

OUR SOLUTION:

  • One of the advantages of our approach was to benefit from Software as a Service (SaaS) – software is owned, delivered and managed remotely by one or more providers. SaaS is less expensive  and upgrades are easy to manage
  • Leveraging on Platform as a service (PaaS), we migrated applications from on-premise to Microsoft Azure and as part of this, web servers were provisioned to replace the slow on-premise servers
  • Back end and front-end tools are now available on an hourly basis and therefore the cost came down drastically..This is hosted on Microsoft Azure with a flexible billing plan.

RESULTS ACHIEVED:
With the above solution, we brought down the operational expenses of the organization. The end users witnessed an increase in their productivity as a result of more efficient cloud based web server processing.
Application upgrades are now being performed more efficiently, more securely and with tighter project management controls.

GEOGRAPHY / CUSTOMER REACH: Global

BUSINESS CHALLENGE(S) FACED BY OUR CLIENT:
Application dependency tracking in Java/Spring was a challenge as this was being tracked in flat file formats thereby causing pain points to the organization.

CLOUD PRODUCT USED: Microsoft Azure

OUR SOLUTION:
We set up automatic dependency tracking from .NET console apps,  Installed the NuGet package Microsoft. Application Insights. Dependency Collector and initialized dependency tracking Telemetry module. We also used bytecode instrumentation around selected methods, Event Source callbacks and Diagnostic Source callbacks.
For those dependencies not automatically collected by SDK, we tracked them manually using the Track Dependency API that is used by the standard auto collection modules. The customer no longer has to make modifications to the flat files from a versioning standpoint.

RESULT ACHIEVED:
Helped us to measure the duration of dependency calls, whether it’s failing or not, along with additional information such as  name of dependency and so on. We are now able to investigate specific dependency calls, and correlate them to requests and exceptions.
It’s now faster and easier to see all the application dependencies from the Azure product page. This increased employee efficiency dramatically as it eliminated manual checks and balances that were happening with the flat files.

Scope of work: RV Global Solutions Inc. provided technical security support and developed a specific strategy required to plan and manage the Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) monthly security deliverables, incident reporting and supporting documentation required to meet the USDA security certification and accreditation for FISMA requirements. The project included the following:
Security Plans: We developed and maintained an overall program security plan and individual security plans for all GSS and major applications.  Modification of the templates closely parallels NIST 800-18 but also contains information required by FISMA and the Office of Inspector General audits.  Plans developed for C&A conformed to USDA Cyber Security guidance requirements.
Risk Assessments: We reviewed the current Risk Assessment and developed a strategy for proceeding with an analysis of the system. Utilizing a combination of technical and non-technical methods for the analysis, We ensured the Risk Assessment conformed to the guidance provided by USDA and NIST 800-30, “Risk Management Guide for Information Technology Systems”.
Contingency Plans: Our staff updated/created the Contingency Plan to be compliant with NIST Special Publication 800-34; “Contingency Planning Guide for Information Technology Systems” and USDA Guidance.  The resulting Contingency Plans are compliant with all pertinent policy, defining contingency roles and responsibilities, and identifying the step-by-step procedures to take in time of emergency.
Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA):Our team reviewed and verified the current PIA and updated the document.
Identify Security Controls and Construct a Compliance Matrix:We ensured that USDA was aware and concurred with changes in the SCCM due to changes in the Federal guidance. The existing Security Controls Compliance Matrix (SCCM) was updated to reflect current selection and levels of security controls. This information directly feeds the Risk Assessment in Phase I and the Security Test and Evaluation (ST&E) in Phase II. The matrix deliverable included a list of each security control, the reference from which the security control was derived, and whether or not the control had been implemented. The resulting SCCM would be fully-completed during the ST&E phase. Our personnel utilized USDA guidance and the NIST SP 800-53 documentation.
Configuration Management Plan: As part of the system review, our team reviewed and updated the existing Configuration Management (CM) Plan. Our team ensured that the documented plan addressed the management of changes made to the system’s hardware, software, firmware, documentation, throughout the development and operational life of the IT system. The resulting CM Plan followed USDA guidance for CM and CM Planning and met all defined criteria.  As part of the configuration management planning process, The resulting CM Plan ensures change control for future software updates, software and hardware acquisition, version control, as well as requesting and approving changes.
Review the Interconnection Security Agreement (ISA) (High, Medium, Low Systems): Our team followed the USDA guidance on preparing the ISA contained in Chapter 15, Part 1, Security Controls in the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to ensure that the systems that are connected or exchange information from other systems formally address what information will be sent/received, how the information will be exchanged and how to perform this exchange of information securely. Our team reviewed any ISAs that were present for the system to ensure that security is adequately addressed. We met with the appropriate USDA personnel to gather requisite information and develop new ISA(s).
